Garmin update their satnavs in 2 ways. One, Garmin Express, updates maps and system software and that works on my Windows 10 PC. However if I want to update the safety camera files I have to go to Garmin.com website and log in and go to update subscriptions. When I attempt to download the file I get a popup which informs me that Edge does not support the Garmin Communicator Plugin. An alternative suggested is the revert to Internet Explorer. This works so far in that the computer is ready for download, the device is ready for download but the display stops at the downloading position with the button coloured brown. If the systemwas working the last button would turn green with advice that the download was complete. The bar at the bottom of the page flashes green but then reverts to 0%. So it appears that the download has failed.Any suggestions as to a fix?My fix is to go back to a spare Windows 7 PC and get the updates that way.

Thank you for your advice, which I have not yet followed, because I also asked Garmin for their advice and theirs did work. I insert below their advice along with my deviations. It still does not solve the problem with Edge not supporting the Garmin Communicatorplugin.
However if you have IE on the windows 10 PC it can work. Many thanksThomasQuote beginsDear Hannah,Thank you for your advice which I followed and I can now download safety camera files using Internet Explorer on my Windows 10 PC. I had to deviate once or twice to get the result and I have indicated below where I had a problem. Many thanksThomasDear Thomas Langford,Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.I am happy to help you with this. Please ensure you have the latest version of the Communicator Plug-In installed to your computer, to check if this is the latest version please click the below link:I did this and found myself looking at the Edge page with a notice telling me that Edge does not supportthe Garmin Plugin.
The solution here was to open IE and type in the link. I can confirm that the Garmin Communicator plugin seems to be the missing link. Annoyingly after a recent PC rebuild I also had to update my camera subscription. I purchased it then spentfar too long before I recalled that component. It was late and I was tired. The update process should not be that painful. I don't believe the errors I received, trying every browser I use, gave any specific direction.
The supplied links (VBS scripts? I'mno expert there) seemed to do nothing, same story with the Trusted Sites fix.I also don't understand why on earth this aspect of Garmin ownership and update isn't tied into the desktop Garmin Express, quite bizarre.Ref: Win7/32, Win10/32, Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer.
Barnsey7, Totally unreliableWhen it’s working it’s excellent. I have a DezlCam and the lead connecting my sat nav also provides live traffic but this stopped working so I rely totally on this app for live traffic updates as I’m a long distance class 1 lorry driver. More often than not it connects to my iPhone XR then to IOS services and after about 5 seconds disconnects from them again. It’s so annoying that one day it works perfectly then the next day it won’t work at all. It’s the most unstable app I’ve ever used. Cmon Garmin sort it out. Suzukibob, Drops connectionHave been using this app 5 days a week for work plus on weekend rides on motorcycle.
Since buying my Garmin Sat nav several years ago App has been randomly temperamental one day all works as it should, next day won’t connect or drops connection fiddling on connecting via mobile or via sat nav Bluetooth connection. So now latest is it connects stays connected as you drive away but looses connection after a random time while driving which means no traffic updates and getting stuck in jams which sat nav can’t see and can’t avoid. I wonder if new features on iPhone using it while driving are screwing it up as each time turn on mobile app not running click it bingo reconnects.Get this sorted as mobile phones with app sat navs and even Google maps are now kicking your ars. Ducati Multistrada Dave, Opportunity MissedThis app has potential but the current functionality is somewhat underwhelming.Map quality is poor and there is no ability to plan or store routes/tracks on the phone even if you try to import from another planning app (including web sites).
Finding locations is cumbersome and trying to use the contacts area shows misaligned fields that shows there has been little attention to detail.Biggest issue for me is that I cannot edit data on the phone for the device even though the app is showing me what is on the device. Frustratingly, I have a set showing for the phone and a set showing for the device. Surely the app is for the management of the device as well as for the slow data connection.Bluetooth connectivity has been stable for me but the pairing process required me to set up the device twice to ensure data functionality as well as the usual phone connectivity.Overall, this app could do so much but seems to be a way of just providing a data link for the Garmin device and also to sell me some ‘additions’ of functionality for the device.
Come on Garmin, this is not even ‘half baked’. Developer Response,Hello Dave and many thanks for your feedback. Please note that Smartphone Link it's just a companion app and main features of navigation can only be found on your Garmin Navigator device. Still, we will consider implementing your suggested options in the future versions. If you're facing any other issues please feel free to contact us at [email protected] and we'll gladly assist you in solving them.
The nice thing about standalone GPS and dashcams is that you can plug them into any car with a 12-volt outlet, and voila: Satellite navigation in your Cold War-era hooptie. The problem is, if you wanted navigation and a dash cam, you'd end up with two devices vying for dash space. Garmin just solved that with the new nuviCam LMTHD, an all-in-one device that features GPS, a dashcam, and nifty collision and lane-departure warnings that you've never been able to add to your older car.The $400 GPS device features a 6-inch touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom and Garmin's free lifetime map updates, as well as Garmin's HD Digital Traffic with real-time traffic updates every 30 seconds. The navigation system is voice activated, and can predict time delays or find detours when you've hit a particularly nasty traffic snarl. But the nuviCam's biggest trick is what you'll find on the opposite side of the GPS screen.
A built-in HD dashcam that continuously records, and saves a timestamped video with GPS location data if it senses an impact. The camera records to a 4 GB microSD card (included), and can even take photos—say, to document damage or capture license plate photos in the event of an accident. That camera is also put to use while driving to monitor your driving. Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning alert you if you're about to drift off the road or rear-end the car in front of you.The nuviCam also offers Garmin's regular host of Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, intelligible spoken navigation alerts, Foursquare-powered points-of-interest, and support for an add-on wireless back-up camera., with delivery coming by late May or early June.
